Evening Gowns and Bridesmaids' Dresses

Today is a great day! My two Watter & Watter evening gowns and my sister's Bridesmaid dress arrived!!!! When I placed the order last November, the estimated arrival time was the end of March. I was a bit freaked out as I was worried that I might not have enough time for alterations! It's a miracle that they arrived 8 weeks earlier! Thanks to the amazing staff working at www.netbride.com! They really made it happen for me!

I have just called Penny Dawson, a very talented seamstress in town. She will be meeting with me on February 8 for alterations! I will need to mail the dress to Loretta, my sister, so that she can get someone in Hong Kong to fix the dress for her!

Life is going great! Things are finally under control! :-)

The next task is to find a limo!!! :-)

Flower Talk

Woke up this morning with a really bad sore throat. Strepsil, rinsing with salt water... I tired them all, but nothing worked.

Flower talk... will be meeting with Candice, the flower lady this Saturday to finalize the flower choice. I did up a list on the weekend, and had come up with a few revisions since the weekend.

The wedding flowers will be Vandella Roses. Parent's flowers will by Cymbidium Orchids & Freesia.

Wedding Invitations

Last Saturday, Virginia and I went out for dinner. I have the 2008 Entertainment Book, so Virginia and I always like to pick a new restaurant from the book. So, this time, we picked Prime 360 at Minto Suite Hotel. Atmosphere was great, food was awesome (I had cornish hen with wild rice, and Virginia had seafood pasta) and the company was amazing. Virginia and I meet up once a month and we can always pick up where we left off last time.
Virginia was the first recepient of our wedding invitation!!!!! I still can't believe the deadline of mailing out wedding invites is less than a week away. I have been pushing Joe to finish all the final editing of the wedding website so that by the time the guests receive the wedding invites in the mail, the wedding website will be perfect with all the necessary information in it.

Mothers of the Bride and Groom... do their outfits need to match?

I am writing this blog with my mouth half frozen (been to the dentist earlier...).

I have been asked a few times what my mom (aka the mother of the bride -- the second most important person on the wedding day) will be wearing on the wedding day. I know it is a tradition that the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom will both get together prior to the wedding so that they can decide on what to wear on the big day. Well...that's the tradition, and being in the 21st century, Joe and I do not feel that it is important to follow this tradition.

My mom is a very talented seamstress and she has been making clothes for my dad, my sisters and me for the last decade at least. As soon as Joe and I were officially engaged, she had bought fabrics from Japan and it did not take her long to decide what to wear. The Mother of the Bride traditionally has a very important role in the wedding, and this is one of the many traditions that Joe and I have decided to follow. Being the second most important person on my wedding day... I simply want my mom to be happy and be proud of her newly-inherited son-in-law (my parents are actually pretty fond of Joe).

People always say that relationship with the in-laws can be very tricky. But I must say that Joe and I are very fortunate that we do not have this problem at all. Joe gets along quite well with my family, and Joe's dad and his wife seem very easy going as well. So unlike some other brides, who give the mothers a list of "approved" clothes and colors, we simply ask the mothers to go creative and wear anything they feel comfortable with. Afterall... it is a day of celebration... so everyone should have fun!

Future In-Laws

Joe and I got a call from Carl, Joe's dad this morning. He asked us if we need any help for the wedding. I met Joe's dad and his wife in April 2006 when Joe took me to meet his family the first time. Ever since Joe and I are engaged, Carl and Sandy have really make me feel like part of the Vautour's family. Last year, they sent us a christmas card, and they wrote, " To my son and my daughter-in-law to be"... ahhhhh... wasn't the sweet? This year, their card wrote, "To Mr. and Mrs. future-to-be Vautour"... though I have not become a Vautour yet... I feel that they have validated my status and that they are happy to have me as part of the family. :-)

Although they have not finalized their travel plan yet... I really hope that they will arrive a few days before the wedding so that Carl and Sandy and my parents will be able to meet and have a nice pre-wedding dinner together!

BM's Dresses and FG's Dress

Ok... here is an update on BM's dresses and FG's dress:

1. Rose's BM dress will be arriving in two weeks.

2. Got an e-mail from Joe's sister, Carla the other night. She had ordered the FG dress and she will be taking Kaytlin for the first dress fitting soon.

3. Loretta's dress will be arriving in the beginning of March, along with my two evening gowns.

Wedding Invitations

While Joe was playing his new Nintendo WII (one of his several christmas presents) yesterday, I managed to put all the wedding invitations together, with RSVP cards and all. Next we will need to do is to update / revise our guest list, and the invitations will be going out in mail on February 1 as scheduled!

Wine Labels

Got a day off today (YAY!!!), so today will be a wedding DIY day. Joe is working today so I have the whole house all myself! HaHaHa! :-)

Came up with a few designs on the wine labels last night. At first I thought it was hard to do, but after chatting with a few webers on weddingbells.ca I found out that this task is totally manageable. So here are my designs.

Costs: two rolls of double-sided tapes, one glue stick, printing at Staples and many many hours of coming up with the label designs! (gee! Never thought that I can be so crafty!!!)

Men and Wedding Planning

I guess men are not good with wedding planning. They would like to help, so to give support as what they will call it, but they'd rather be somewhere else.
That makes me wonder... should the groom be participating in the wedding planning or not?
